MeteoSwiss has been measuring pollen concentrations in the air for 28 years. These measurements are particularly important for allergy sufferers, who account for more than 20 % of the population in Switzerland. Thanks to recent technological advances, it is now possible to carry out these measurements in real time. The implementation of the automatic pollen monitoring network has begun : the dawn of a new era in the monitoring of these allergens.

A revolution in the service of users

MeteoSwiss is now launching the stage in the realisation of its automatic pollen monitoring network in collaboration with the Lucerne-based company Swisens AG, which won last year's public tender. Its "Swisens Poleno" system, which is based on the principle of recognition by holography and was validated in Payerne in the spring in thorough tests, will in future be used to equip the measuring stations. The first stations will be ready for the 2021 pollen season, and the entire network will be operational from 2022.
